Web Hosting Company Cautions!

Be cautious when hiring a hosting company to host your website, many factors should be considered. First analyze your hosting needs and be mindful of the follow points...

1. Price and for what features?

2. How much storage space do you need, or will you need in the future?

3. Is there Security issues? Can you do automatic updates? Can you install modules, themes, without writing in SSH or creating an INI or PHP file? Can you install CMS, like WordPress, Durpal, Open-Cart, Joomla, Etc? And be cautious of Windows servers because if you're using CMS's like WordPress, Drupal, Joomla they usually don't handle these type of installs!

4. Is it possible to manage your domain name? add a sub-domain, make changes to (DNS) Domain Name Servers, etc?

5. Do you have c-panel access to make changes and install a database for a manual install, or to add a sub-domain, forward, redirect or even add another directory?

6. Is there technical support?... and what are their office hours, or if there is only a support center via chat or email, and then what type of time frame do they get back with you? I have literally been booted out and could not login to my ftp and or the support center and had to go to another hosting company and lose my website! Nobody from that hosting company ever got back to me!

7. Is your hosting shared server overloaded by one or many of the websites hosted on the shared server? It can cause slow loading times and give you a poorer Google rating!

8. Be careful of email storage space with an email account with your web hosting provider. Most hosting companies won't emphasis the need for unlimited email storage space that you will probably need for your companies emails. What actually happens if you don't setup unlimited email storage is that your email inbox will become full and your emails will kick back to an inbox catch-all and your emails are lost forever in cyberspace. So make sure when you sign-up for a web hosting account that you have unlimited email storage.

I just wanted to share a few of the problems and issues I have encountered over the years and help you become aware of let's just say web hosting that can ruin your search results and your last nerve!

These are just a few of the issues that I wanted to share, and I hope this helps you find a great hosting company.

Attractive Web Design vs. Effective Web Design

Thousands of new websites are created and uploaded every day. Even in small industries, new businesses are emerging every day. Even though the competition is increasing day by day, but should small business be really concerned with the growing number of websites? Internet provides information and it's good to the information available in abundance, however, what a lot of websites lack is creativity and ability to attract their market. So, from this perspective, most businesses have nothing to worry about because their existing competitors and new entrepreneurs lack in creating effective web design for their business.

What a lot of businesses care about (when they create a new site) is that they want it to look good. They care about images, colors and the overall layout. They try to create a cool and nice atmosphere, but fail to realize that their websites must be practical and easily accessible instead of way too attractive.

Attractiveness won't give you any benefit if people are unable to browse your website and find the information or products that they need. An effective websites focuses on usability along with having a nice and decent design. However, merely focusing on design is probably the biggest mistake a business can make.

See, you just don't want people to come to your site and praise your design. You want them to get involved and then later take action as you like. To engage them and bring them back to your website, you need more than an attractive web design. What you need is an effective web design which is a combination of attractiveness, easy accessibility, simplicity and simple navigation. Otherwise, you won't be able to have your visitors perform the action that you want and all your precious traffic will be a total waste for you and your business.

If you are unable to convert your visitors into customers, if you are unable to sell your products to the most relevant visitors, then it means your design is not effective and it's not doing the job it is supposed to do.

It may be attractive, but it won't, of course, pay your bills. A lot of designers, when they create new designs, don't create about readability. They don't care about the font size. Thus, with a weird and small font, they make it extremely difficult for the visitors to read the content. This is a very big mistake.

Your content must be easily readable and it should look neat and clean. The overall design may look good with small font, but you shouldn't expect your market to read your content and take action. Another mistake that a lot of people make prevent their web design from becoming effective is that they create complex navigation. They make it extremely difficult (not on purpose of course) to browse the site and find the required products or information.

So, the bottom line is that your attractive web design may look good, but it may not help you convert your visitors and make money. Hence, it will actually be a bad design. Whereas, an effective web design looks nice and also allows visitors to browse the site easily and conveniently. Hence, an effective web design can convert more visitors. So, go for it and avoid creating a messy fish market.

Effective Web Design

In order to design an effective web page, you must attack it in an organized fashion.

First, decide what the goals of the website are. For example, will your website advertise a product or service, inform the public, or serve as a blog for your personal musings.

Next, based on the goals, determine who your core web audience will be. Your web design should speak to your websites goals and drive traffic from your core audience to the site. Before you begin using any web design program, I recommend getting out a pen and several blank pieces of paper. On one piece of paper, draw out a tree structure, where each branch represents a different page on your web site. For example, you may start with your home page and then have a page that goes into more detail about the purpose of your website or provides contact information.

Look at the tree you have made and take a step back.

Do you need more pages or have you overcomplicated the site with too many pages. Make adjustments accordingly. Once you have identified all the potential pages in your website, consider how you will want your audience to navigate from page to page. Will you incorporate a tool bar that goes to each page or require the user to click links from one page or another? Consider if there are some pages where your audience will want to get to easily or more regularly versus pages that might contain only specialized information. Identify the most important pages and use those for your navigation.

Next, start by designing a template by drawing it on a piece of paper. The template will appear on every single page. At a minimum, it should include whatever navigation you have chosen for your site, along with an area for page content.

The template will help serve as a guide for the look and feel of your page, so you may want to do several drafts.

Now that you have designed your template, start to build each page's content. This may be a good time to start using web page design software. Remember to consider other people's copyrights when designing your page. In other words, do not steal images or content from others. Once your page has been built, consider different ways to monetize it. Will you sell ads or search for sponsors? Or perhaps you just intend this to be a non-profit endeavor. These days there are many services that provide easy ways to make money on your website.
